Job Description:
Description JOB SUMMARY The Journeyman Plumber performs skilled
plumbing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
work across the Zoo’s facilities and infrastructure systems. This
position supports both routine maintenance and complex plumbing
projects involving potable water, sanitary sewer, gas, and
specialty systems. Work is performed under general supervision and
requires coordination with internal teams, contractors, and other
trades to maintain safe, reliable plumbing systems throughout the
campus. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Diagnose,
troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including
water, gas, waste, and sewer piping. • Install, modify, and repair
plumbing fixtures, piping systems, pumps, valves, thermostats,
controls, and related equipment. • Perform preventive maintenance
inspections and identify leaks, corrosion, deterioration, or other
plumbing-related issues. • Coordinate plumbing work with other
maintenance trades, operational departments, and contractors;
monitor contractor work as required. • Identify plumbing system
issues and implement repairs or system improvements under the
direction of department leadership. • Estimate labor hours and
material requirements for plumbing projects and service work. •
Read and interpret plumbing diagrams, blueprints, and schematic
drawings to support installation and repairs. • Maintain accurate
work documentation and complete work orders using the Zoo’s
computerized maintenance management system (FMX). • Maintain tools,
equipment, and work areas in a safe condition, respond to emergency
plumbing issues as needed. • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma or GED required. • Minimum of
three (3) years of experience in commercial or industrial plumbing
maintenance and construction. • Must hold a current Texas
Journeyman Plumber License. • Knowledge of commercial plumbing
systems including potable water, gas, sanitary sewer, and drainage
systems. • Experience with plumbing service calls, troubleshooting,
repairs, and estimating labor and materials. • Experience
installing and repairing black pipe, copper, PVC, and polyethylene
piping systems. • Ability to read and interpret plumbing
schematics, blueprints, and diagrams. • Ability to solder, weld,
braze, and perform minor field fabrication. • Ability to safely
operate plumbing tools, equipment, and machinery. • Ability to work
outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically
demanding work including walking, standing, climbing ladders,
working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 60 pounds. • Ability
to work nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs
require. • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. • Must be
self-motivated, organized, and able to work both independently and
as part of a team with effective verbal and written communication
skills. • Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug
screening, background check, and TB test.
