The VP, Business Markets Construction "VP BMC" Position

Sunnova Energy is searching for VP, Business Markets Construction to be the leader for Sunnova's Business Markets team in the installation of projects including solar, battery storage, controls, natural gas generation, and EV Changing. The position will oversee engineering and procurement activities and actively manage the Construction process. VP BMC will vet installers to be accepted as a registered installer and perform project management, risk analysis, budget and resource management. In addition to this the VP BMC will be assisting the SVP of Business Markets to develop the new department and teams supporting this new venture.

VP, Business Markets Construction Responsibilities

  • Sales Engineering
  • Performs Customer facing discussions with facilities personnel
  • Performs New build discussions with architects and/or prime contractors (with subs)
  • Develops practical capability ideation
  • Though leadership in Sunnova quality differentiators in project construction and reliability
  • Engineering and design oversight
  • Vets engineering resources (either outsourced or future insourced)
  • Advises on best practices for design and engineering work through final stamped plan set
  • Establishes review process of initial design and final design
  • Establishes clear communication and handoff from Engineering to Construction team
  • Facilitates and advises on questions between Construction team and Engineering

    • Installer Vetting and Setup
    • Performs qualification vetting for potential commercial installers and approval
    • Oversees Channel Partner Agreement (CPA) rules and regulation changes by state and/or jurisdiction
    • Oversees CPA (install) rules and regulations by customer type by jurisdiction (ex. ISD's Muni's, Govt.)
    • Performs CPA negotiations
    • Oversees cost expectations of general contracting to rationalize cost proposals:
      • Hourly labor by state
      • BOS estimates
      • Major materials
      • Deeper Installer Support and Oversight
      • Supports change order processing, negotiation, and contract (exhibit amendment if necessary)
      • Technical Install SME and advisor (or facilitator):
        • Aesthetic optimization of systems installation
        • Racking - Fixed Tilt, Flush Mount, Ground Mount, Ballast Blocks
        • Inverters - Mounting, wire runs, compatibility with rapid shut down
        • Modules - Mount zones, wire management
        • DAS - Hardwire communication types, data types
        • Roofing Penetration Hardware - types along with means and methods to optimize
        • Roofing protection - Ballast pads, walkway pads
        • Knowledgeable base regarding roof types, structural integrity of roofs / canopy
        • Oversees process of construction timeline and process given longer timelines and specific requirements by customer type (ex. Laydown areas, logistics, security, business hours)
        • Implements QA/QC process and leverage of automation (if possible, for small projects)
          • Process to automate oversight of milestone payments or approval
          • Checking connections and work
          • Development of commissioning package
          • Final Completion Approval Process

            • Monitoring (Service) and Remediation Expertise
            • Develops coordination of monitoring process and guidelines and how it flows into network operations center
            • Oversees service level and response time
            • Coordinates installer remediation work with knowledge of systems and insight to facilitate correction
            • Advises or is a resource for:
              • Warranty claims on major equipment
              • General construction special circumstances: underground boring, trenching, concrete work, etc.
              • General construction remediation: broken pipes, roof damage


                Minimum Requirements
                • Education required: Bachelor's Degree
                • A minimum of 10 years of design/build construction management
                • Ability to represent Sunnova in negotiations with installation partners and customers
                • Strong knowledge of electrical and construction codes
                • Valid driver's license with clean motor vehicle record
                • Ability to travel to job sites

                  Preferred Qualifications
                  • 10 years of experience with photovoltaic systems
                  • NABCEP Installer certification
                  • OSHA 30 certification
                  • System Operations & Maintenance training and experience
                  • Other safety certifications (I.e., CPR, fall prevention)
                  • Good understanding of Ideation - innovation, to development, to actualization

                    Additional Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
                    • Technical knowledge of: Aesthetic optimization of systems installation; Racking solutions; Inverters; DAS; Roofing Penetration; Roofing protection
                    • Knowledgeable base regarding roof types, structural integrity of roofs/canopy

                      Working Conditions
                      • Remote-office environment
                      • Estimated travel time: 25%-50%
                      • Driving Required

                        Physical Requirements
                        • Extended periods of time working at computer workstation
