The purpose of this job is to apply and remove all types of casts
and splints. Typically, a person in this position will have at
least two (2) years of experience in the care of the orthopedic
patient. It is preferred that they are certified by the National
Board of Certification for Orthopedic Technologists (NBOCT). This
person works independently without supervision and may be required
to provide call coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Articulates descriptions of orthopedic conditions to patients and
their families based on the understanding of anatomical structures
and their relationships with one another.
Applies, adjusts, and removes all common orthopedic devices, using
a manual or standard practice as a guideline.
Performs basic casting, including the application of SPICA
Knowledge of theory and application of skin or skeletal
Properly applies aseptic techniques in dressing changes, removes
sutures or staples and sets up a sterile surgical field.
Interprets simple fractures and dislocations on X-ray films.
Must perform in an operating room environment as a first and second
assistant or scrub technician under the direct supervision of a
Schedule: Part-time- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
License & certifications:
- BLS Certification American Heart Association required
- National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologist
